.A report on West Darfur Events
(Kreink and El Geneina)
On April 21, 2022, rebel forces affiliated with the Sudanese Alliance headed by the Governor of West Darfur, General Khamis Abdullah Abbakar, killed two shepherds who were grazing their livestock in the outskirts of Karinik locality. Afterwards, these forces entered Kreink locality.
The families of the deceased shephards gathered and went to the Kreinik local authority to demand the arrest of the perpetrators. The local executive director addressed them and asked for two hours to arrest the perpetrators. The families waited for the director and rested in the gardens next to the locality, waiting for the director’s promise.
While they were waiting, they were attacked by the Sudanese Alliance forces. Eight people were killed on the spot, 25 others were wounded, and their cars and animals were looted. The civil administration of the Arab tribes addressed the local government of Kreinik on April 22, and requested to raise the murdered victims and to remove the wounded.
Then a violent conflict took place in Kreinik, in which many people from both sides died, and the shepherds’ communities withdrew after an appeal from the neutral parties.
The shepherds’ families raised their dead and wounded and brought them to El Geneina Hospital. While the families of the wounded were sitting to have Ramadan Iftar inside the hospital, they were attacked by the forces of Governor Khamis Abkar, led by Major General Elias Mustafa, the general commander, and a violent clash ensued in which Major General Elias and his deputy were killed. Six people accompanying the patients were wounded, and the situation is still unstable, as it is expected that Khamis Abkar’s forces will attack the citizens Monday 25 morning due to the killing of their leader.
